PITTSBURGH, July 24, 2018 –   Cushman & Wakefield Grant Street Associates, Inc. (Grant Street Associates) is pleased to announce that Bombardier Transportation has executed a long-term lease to relocate  several of its business divisions from West Mifflin to Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Randy McCombs and Sam McGill of Grant Street Associates represented Bombardier in the lease acquisition.

Bombardier will occupy approximately 90,000 square feet at One Waterfront Place, a 200,000-square-foot, class A office building located in Pittsburgh’s Greater Downtown submarket. One Waterfront Place was constructed 16 years ago for original tenant, Seagate Technologies. Though Seagate has long-since vacated the building, McCombs remarked that Bombardier’s decision to move to the building is fitting, given that both companies chose the location for its vibrancy and access to the region’s top talent.

“It is great to see a global leader in rail technology move into the original tech building of the Strip District,” McCombs said. “Keeping Bombardier in Pittsburgh is a coup for the region’s growing technology sector.”

Among the Bombardier divisions moving to One Waterfront Place is the Rail Control Solutions (RCS) group.  Ronald L. Birkelbach, Bombardier’s Head of RCS for the Americas Region, said “The Pittsburgh area has a long and distinguished history in the rail industry, and Bombardier has played an integral part. We look forward to our continued presence in this innovative environment and especially to growing our automated signaling business.”

“Bombardier’s move into Pittsburgh is a great addition to the city’s booming transportation and technology sectors, and is a perfect fit with the fabric of the Strip District,” Mayor William Peduto said.

Bombardier has retained Cushman & Wakefield Grant Street Associates, Inc. to dispose of its existing building located at 1501 Lebanon Church Road in the Borough of West Mifflin. This 176,485-square-foot facility offers a combination of general office and conference space with nearly 77,000 square feet of high-tech manufacturing area.

“A substantial component in Pittsburgh’s economic future will be robotics and high-tech manufacturing,” McGill says. “This property provides the user with a unique opportunity to acquire one of the cleanest high-tech spaces available in a market with very little inventory.”

McGill says the property’s close proximity to the city’s university center makes it ideal for the growing robotics sector in Pittsburgh. “Its location is only nine miles from some of the best tech talent in the region, making it a great opportunity for a user that needs high-tech space that’s easily accessible for its local workforce.”
